Mahmood Shafiee, University of Surrey, UK

Professor Shafiee is a Full Professor and Chair of Energy Resilience, as well as the Director of the Energy Resilience Centre at the University of Surrey, UK. He is a globally recognized researcher in the field of energy systems and infrastructure resilience and has been ranked among the top 0.5% of the world’s most influential scientists by Stanford University. With over 20 years of research experience, his expertise spans Resilient Energy Technologies, Ageing of Materials & Structures, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), and Inspection & Repair Technologies. Additionally, he has advanced knowledge in the application of digital technologies, such as Digital Twins and Artificial Intelligence, in prognostics and health management of cyber-physical systems. He is actively involved in various professional organizations, including serving as a Committee Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Energy Committee in the European Safety & Reliability Association (ESRA), and a Committee Member of the Engineering Integrity Society (EIS). He is also a Member of the Energy Institute (EI), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT). Beyond his professional memberships, he has authored one book, twelve book chapters, co-invented three patents, and contributed to over 200 articles in prestigious journals. He has also served as a plenary speaker and program committee member at over 100 international conferences across countries such as the UK, US, Canada, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
